Midwxst - Edgar Sarratt

One of the newest members to the Geffen Records family has been dubbed the new American teen and has been rapping since his freshman year of high school. Indiana native, Edgar Sarratt, commonly known as Midwxst, saw the opportunity to “do something bigger than he ever thought he could do.”

Using soundcloud, Midwxst was able to find similar creative-minded individuals and his hyper-pop, rap sound gained popularity.

Now, at just 18 years old, Midwxst is releasing music he hopes others can relate to while continuing to be organically himself.

“Music for me is putting out the thoughts and conversations I can’t have with other people,” Midwxst said. “Music is a really great medium to express how you’re feeling.”

To Midwxst, his album SUMMER03 is the most meaningful music he has put out. In SUMMER03, he showcases his more vulnerable side and opens up about his struggles.

“I ended up just pouring out my emotions and talking about how I felt,” Midwxst said. “I hadn’t really done that up until that point; I never felt like I had the strength to approach and conquer the stuff that was constantly beating me down.”

Midwxt opens up about being diagnosed with ADHD in elementary school and going through dark periods of suicidal thoughts.

“Talking about those experiences firsthand and how it shaped me to be who I am is a key part in healing and just growing as a person,” Midwxst said. “Sometimes, though, it is challenging to talk about the very traumatic events, to me, that have occurred.”

While creating music has become a therapeutic outlet for Midwxst, he also is able to express who he is through his music videos. With a love for anime, animated portions are incorporated into his music videos, as well as bright and “over the top” colors.

For Midwxst, the best advice he has ever received was from one of his favorite artists, Tyler the Creator. Midwxst ran into Tyler the Creator at the Santa Monica Pier and was able to strike up a conversation. His advice to Midwxst was to continue to make the music he wants to make, as people are always going to doubt no matter what.

“I’d rather make music I want to make, get chewed out for it, than never try.”

Currently, Midwxst is a student at Belmont University in Nashville, TN where he is continuing his education and music career.

Midwxst’s biggest advice he would give to his younger self is to not compare yourself to those around you.

“You can’t please everyone. Everyone’s path in life comes at a different time. I didn’t realize music was going to be a big thing for me until SUMMER03,” Midwxst explains.

Midwxst’s debut EP BACK IN ACTION will be released on September 15 and his newest track “All Talk,” along with the rest of his music is available for listening on all streaming platforms.
